Frequently Asked Questions

The estimated CAPEX range is USD 15 million to USD 80 million, depending on mill capacity, automation level, refining integration, and biomass utilization systems.

The typical plant capacity is 30 to 120 tonnes per hour of fresh fruit bunches (FFB) throughput. With an oil extraction rate of 20% to 23%, CPO production ranges from 6 to 27 tonnes per hour.

The global palm oil market is valued at around USD 75 billion to USD 82 billion, with crude palm oil accounting for approximately 46% to 52% of total market value. The market is expected to grow at a CAGR of 3.3% to 5.9% through 2034. Global crude palm oil production is estimated at around 75 million to 80 million MT per year.

Food and edible oil applications account for around 62% of demand, biodiesel and biofuel applications contribute about 17%, oleochemicals represent around 11%, animal feed accounts for 6%, and other industrial uses contribute the remaining 4%.

The production process involves sterilizing fresh fruit bunches at 130 to 145 degree Celsius, threshing, digestion at 90 to 95 degree Celsius, pressing, clarification, oil polishing, and vacuum drying to reduce moisture below 0.15%. Enzymatic extraction is an alternative processing method.

The primary feedstock is fresh fruit bunches (FFB) from oil palm plantations, which account for around 80% to 88% of total raw material spending.

Core process equipment accounts for around 35% to 45% of total plant CAPEX.

Manufacturing costs are mainly driven by fresh fruit bunches, labour, energy, and maintenance, which together account for around 80% to 90% of total manufacturing expenses. FFB prices are the main factor affecting cost fluctuations.

Indonesia and Malaysia dominate production, together accounting for about 84% of global crude palm oil output. Other producing regions include Thailand, Colombia, Nigeria, Guatemala, and Honduras.

Standard crude palm oil contains around 3% to 5% free fatty acids (FFA) and moisture below 0.25%. Premium low-FFA grades have FFA below 2.5% and moisture below 0.15%. RSPO-certified and special technical/EUDR-compliant grades are also available. Specifications are based on FFA content, moisture, impurities, and sustainability requirements.

Crude palm oil is stored in heated tanks at 50 to 60 degree Celsius and transported in heated tankers or isotainers. Facilities must comply with RSPO, ISPO, MSPO, EUDR, and environmental regulations. Crude palm oil is generally considered a low-hazard combustible organic material requiring controlled storage conditions.
