Frequently Asked Questions

The typical CAPEX range is USD 3 million to USD 12 million for a plant with a production capacity of 100 to 1,000 metric tons per year.
The benchmark plant capacity is 100 to 1,000 metric tons per year of technical and high-purity lead iodide.
The global market size is expected to be around USD 40 million to USD 90 million, with a CAGR of around 7.5% to 8.5% over the forecast period.
Perovskite solar cell precursors account for 30 to 40% of demand; X-ray and gamma-ray detectors and photodetectors account for 20 to 25%; specialty semiconductor and research use accounts for 15 to 20%; and other industrial uses account for 10 to 15%.
Lead iodide is manufactured through precipitation by double displacement of lead nitrate and potassium iodide solutions, followed by filtration, washing, and drying. Electronic and perovskite grades are further purified by recrystallization to reach 99.99% or higher.
Key feedstocks are lead nitrate or lead acetate, potassium iodide or hydroiodic acid, demineralized and ultrapure water, and nitrogen for inert handling of high-purity grades. The iodide source and lead salt together represent 70 to 85% of total raw material expense.
Core process equipment, including reactors, precipitation vessels, filters, recrystallization units, and dryers, represents 40 to 50% of total lead iodide plant setup cost.
Iodine cost is the main driver because iodide is the expensive feedstock. Energy for precipitation, recrystallization, and drying also contributes about 8-12% of OPEX.
Asia Pacific dominates production, with China as the world's largest producer.
Available grades include technical, high-purity, perovskite, detector, and electronic grades, with high-purity grades reaching 99.99% or higher.
Manufacturing requires permits for lead handling, lead-bearing effluent treatment, waste treatment, and compliance audits to meet environmental obligations.
