Frequently Asked Questions

The estimated CAPEX range is USD 2 billion to USD 15 billion, depending on LNG train capacity, liquefaction technology, pretreatment facilities, storage, utilities, and export infrastructure.

The benchmark plant capacity is 2 to 10 million tons per year (MTPA) of LNG.

The global LNG market is expected to reach approximately USD 100 billion to USD 200 billion, expanding at a forecast CAGR of 5.5% to 6.5%.

Power generation and city gas account for approximately 45% to 55% of demand, industry represents 25% to 35%, while residential heating and other applications account for the remaining 15% to 25%.

LNG production involves pretreatment of natural gas to remove carbon dioxide, water, sulfur compounds, mercury, and heavy hydrocarbons, followed by cryogenic liquefaction using cascade or mixed-refrigerant technology. The gas is cooled to approximately −162 degree Celsius, converting it into liquid form.

The key feedstocks for Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) production are natural gas, electricity or other energy used for liquefaction, and gas pretreatment chemicals. Natural gas accounts for approximately 75% to 90% of total raw material costs, while energy required for deep cryogenic cooling contributes around 10% to 20%. Pretreatment chemicals and other process materials typically represent less than 5% of total raw material costs.

The liquefaction trains, pretreatment facilities, LNG storage, and export systems together represent approximately 55% to 70% of the total LNG plant setup cost.

Natural gas prices and energy consumption have the greatest influence on LNG production costs. Energy-intensive cryogenic liquefaction makes power and fuel efficiency particularly important to operating economics.

Major LNG-producing regions include Qatar, Australia, the United States, and Russia. The source does not provide specific percentages for their respective shares of global LNG capacity.
