Caustic Potash Price Trend Q2 2026
- Caustic potash markets showed mixed but generally firm conditions during Q2 2026 as higher operating costs were balanced by adequate regional availability.
- Energy, electricity and broader chlor-alkali costs remained important production drivers, while high operating rates in major producing markets limited stronger supply pressure.
- Fertilizers, specialty chemicals, electronics, pharmaceuticals and emerging hydrogen applications supported consumption, although weak industrial growth kept procurement selective.
Asia
In China, Caustic Potash average price for the month of June was close to USD 977/MT, while Indian Caustic Potash was valued at nearly USD 1,065/MT. Meanwhile, in UAE, Caustic Potash price was approx. USD 1,280/MT in the same month. Asian markets strengthened early in Q2 as higher energy, freight and raw-material costs increased production and replacement expenses. China nevertheless retained comfortable domestic availability, with broader chlor-alkali operating rates around 83%-84%, providing a supply cushion and limiting uninterrupted gains. Demand from potassium fertilizers, semiconductor and photovoltaic cleaning, specialty chemicals and industrial processing remained supportive but uneven. India experienced firmer landed and replacement costs, while the UAE remained more exposed to imported material, logistics expenses and regional supply disruptions, keeping market values comparatively elevated.
Europe
In the European region, caustic potash market conditions were strong throughout Q2’26 due to higher energy and chemical production costs amid the supply disruptions in the region. Higher electricity and transportation costs as well as dependency on imports for some grades made prices vulnerable to additional costs of freight. Positive demand from pharmaceuticals, specialty chemicals, and alkaline electrolysis supported the market, but lack of activity in general manufacturing and chemicals prevented further growth.
North America
In the USA, Caustic Potash average price was around USD 910/MT during the last month of Q2’26. North American conditions were comparatively stable as adequate alkali availability offset pressure from higher natural gas, electricity and maintenance costs. Broader alkali indicators softened early in the quarter before stabilizing in May, suggesting that suppliers had limited scope for aggressive increases. Demand from fertilizers, industrial cleaning, pharmaceuticals and specialty chemical manufacturing remained steady, while seasonal chemical consumption supported procurement. Buyers nevertheless maintained controlled inventories due to moderate manufacturing activity and sufficient domestic supply.

In the first quarter of 2026, the average price of caustic potash in China was approximately 5.85 RMB/kg (FOB), which was around 6.03 RMB/kg in January, 5.55 RMB/kg in February, and 6.04 RMB/kg in March. Compared with the previous quarter, caustic potash prices in China decreased by approximately ~-8.64% during Q1’26, while prices increased by approximately ~0.17% from January to March. Demand from agrochemicals and chemical intermediates weakened during the Lunar New Year period, while export movement slowed due to congestion and higher shipping costs around the Strait of Hormuz. However, March witnessed marginal improvement as downstream manufacturing activity resumed and inventories tightened slightly.
Europe
In the first quarter of 2026, the average price of caustic potash in Germany was approximately 0.47 EUR/kg (CIF), which was around 0.46 EUR/kg in January, 0.46 EUR/kg in February, and 0.47 EUR/kg in March. Compared with the previous quarter, prices decreased by approximately ~-2.84% during Q1’26, while increasing by approximately ~3.00% from January to March. Higher freight rates and delayed imports from Asia and the Middle East supported March recovery, although cautious procurement limited stronger gains.
North America
In the first quarter of 2026, the average price of caustic potash in the USA was approximately USD 672.36/MT (FOB), which was around USD 641.52/MT in January, USD 674.73/MT in February, and USD 700.83/MT in March. Compared with the previous quarter, prices decreased by approximately ~-8.51% during Q1’26, while rising by approximately ~9.25% from January to March. Demand from chemical processing, liquid fertilizers, and battery applications improved gradually, while elevated freight costs and supply-chain disruptions linked to Gulf trade routes supported bullish sentiment.
