Asia
In the first quarter of 2026, the average price of caustic potash in China was approximately 5.85 RMB/kg (FOB), which was around 6.03 RMB/kg in January, 5.55 RMB/kg in February, and 6.04 RMB/kg in March. Compared with the previous quarter, caustic potash prices in China decreased by approximately ~-8.64% during Q1’26, while prices increased by approximately ~0.17% from January to March. Demand from agrochemicals and chemical intermediates weakened during the Lunar New Year period, while export movement slowed due to congestion and higher shipping costs around the Strait of Hormuz. However, March witnessed marginal improvement as downstream manufacturing activity resumed and inventories tightened slightly.
Europe
In the first quarter of 2026, the average price of caustic potash in Germany was approximately 0.47 EUR/kg (CIF), which was around 0.46 EUR/kg in January, 0.46 EUR/kg in February, and 0.47 EUR/kg in March. Compared with the previous quarter, prices decreased by approximately ~-2.84% during Q1’26, while increasing by approximately ~3.00% from January to March. Higher freight rates and delayed imports from Asia and the Middle East supported March recovery, although cautious procurement limited stronger gains.
North America
In the first quarter of 2026, the average price of caustic potash in the USA was approximately USD 672.36/MT (FOB), which was around USD 641.52/MT in January, USD 674.73/MT in February, and USD 700.83/MT in March. Compared with the previous quarter, prices decreased by approximately ~-8.51% during Q1’26, while rising by approximately ~9.25% from January to March. Demand from chemical processing, liquid fertilizers, and battery applications improved gradually, while elevated freight costs and supply-chain disruptions linked to Gulf trade routes supported bullish sentiment.
Analyst Insight
According to Procurement Resource, caustic potash market sentiment is expected to remain cautiously firm as industrial demand gradually improves and geopolitical disruptions continue to influence freight costs and global trade flows.

Asia
The Asian caustic potash market showed steady price declines throughout the fourth quarter, with China experiencing continuous downward movement. The prices were about 900 USD/MT (FOB) in October and around 849 USD/MT in December. Prices fell gradually as the quarter progressed, driven by weak demand and sufficient supply. The decline was steady and measured rather than sudden or dramatic, reflecting normal market adjustments to changing conditions. Buyers remained cautious in their purchasing approach, keeping inventories low and ordering only what they needed immediately. This cautious buying strategy offered no support for prices to recover. Key industrial users showed little interest in building up stocks, keeping their purchases modest. Supply remained adequate throughout the period, with manufacturers operating smoothly and meeting market needs without any production issues or capacity problems that might have limited availability.
Europe
In Q4’25, the caustic potash markets witnessed slow market conditions with prices showing a gradual decline. The quarter started with a price drop as the market adjusted from higher price levels seen earlier. This downward correction happened as seasonal demand weakened. After this initial drop, prices stabilized and settled at noticeably lower levels than where the quarter began. Trading became more stable, with prices staying relatively flat for the rest of the quarter. Market participants remained careful but appeared to accept the new lower price range, suggesting the correction phase had largely ended by the close of the quarter. The prices were about 528 USD/MT (CIF) in October and around 471 USD/MT in December in the German markets.
North America
In North America, the caustic potash price graph displayed a fluctuating trajectory with an overall decline in prices during the fourth quarter. The United States market experienced a drop in the early part of the quarter. This downward correction reflected building pressure from oversupply relative to demand and changing market expectations. After this initial fall, the market moved into a long period of stable prices that lasted through the rest of the quarter. Market conditions stayed difficult throughout, with demand too weak to support any price recovery despite the stabilization. The prices were about 824 USD/MT (FOB) in October and around 660 USD/MT in December in the US.
