Citronella Oil Price Trend Analysis 2026: Price Drivers, Latest News, Historical Prices, Supply Demand Analysis & Market Insights
Citronella Oil Price Trend H2 2025
Citronella oil prices followed a slightly firm trend during the second half of 2025 as supply constraints continued to influence the market. Production remained concentrated in tropical regions such as Kerala, Karnataka, Assam, and West Bengal, where citronella grass cultivation depended on humid climatic conditions and regular rainfall. During the period, cultivation levels in India declined as several farmers shifted toward alternative crops supported by government subsidy programs. This reduction in planted area limited the availability of fresh raw material for distillation units and affected overall production volumes.
Manufacturers relied on steam distillation of harvested grass to produce citronella oil used in insect repellent products, soaps, candles, and household formulations. Demand from these application sectors remained consistent during the period, maintaining steady purchasing activity from industrial buyers. However, limited harvesting activity and labour shortages in some producing areas constrained production capacity and slowed the replenishment of supply. As a result, distillers and traders depended partly on existing inventories, while previously accumulated stocks gradually moved through the market.
Analyst Insight
According to Procurement Resource, in the near term, citronella oil prices are expected to remain influenced by cultivation levels and harvesting activity. Supply recovery and demand from insect repellent manufacturers are likely to guide short-term market direction.

In the first half of 2025, citronella oil markets in major producing countries like India and Indonesia witnessed a firming price trend, primarily driven by tightening supply and higher production costs. In India, the cultivated area declined further, reducing output. Rising input and labor expenses challenged farmers, while limited carryover stock from the previous season deepened the supply crunch.
Demand remained steady, particularly from aromatherapy, mosquito repellent, and home-care sectors, sustaining market activity and supporting price movements. Indonesia faced similar pressures. Although key growing areas such as Aceh, Java, Sumatra, and Sulawesi remained active, elevated costs in fieldwork and steam distillation processes weighed on producer margins. While the climate remained favorable, operational expenses hindered expansion. Globally, demand stayed firm, supported by continued use in perfumery, wellness, and cosmetic applications. Buyers, especially in export markets, remained active, drawn by citronella oil’s natural positioning and versatile applications.
With limited export volumes and rising costs in both nations, the market leaned toward tightness. As a result, the first half of 2025 was characterized by a stable but constrained supply environment, shaped by persistent demand and cost-driven production challenges across key producing regions.
Analyst Insight
According to Procurement Resource, citronella oil price curve is likely to fluctuate around similar trajectory in the coming months as well, under the lingering high cost of production and constricting supply.
