The Chinese DASDA market during the fourth quarter experienced volatility reflecting shifting feedstock cost structures and downstream consumption patterns. The opening period witnessed a gradual price decline as weakening toluene feedstock costs reduced production expenses for manufacturers, prompting suppliers to lower ex-factory prices to facilitate product movement. Downstream demand from key consuming sectors, including paper manufacturing, textile processing, and detergent formulation, remained subdued throughout the quarter, with purchases primarily driven by immediate production needs rather than inventory building. Paper mills and textile processors maintained conservative procurement strategies amid cautious end-user sentiment, limiting bulk purchasing activity.
Mid-quarter conditions brought modest recovery as feedstock costs stabilized, supporting temporary price firming. However, the overall improvement proved limited as fundamental demand weakness persisted across fluorescent whitening agent applications. The latter portion of the quarter introduced renewed downward pressure as the market entered a volatile phase with suppliers reducing offers amid a weak supply-demand balance. Detergent manufacturers and plastic processors demonstrated tepid consumption patterns, focusing on essential requirements without forward commitments. Year-end trading witnessed range-bound fluctuations as market participants adjusted positions, though weak end-user demand from the paper and textile industries limited meaningful rebound potential. Export activity remained modest with international buyers maintaining cautious approaches.

DASDA prices trended lower through the third quarter of 2025, influenced by declining feedstock costs, particularly toluene, and cautious downstream demand. Early in the quarter, prices demonstrated temporary firmness as supply tightness created short-term support. However, this strength faded as production operations normalized and logistics improved. Toluene, a critical upstream raw material in the aromatic chemical chain affecting DASDA production economics, moved down in stepwise declines before settling into a softer range. This declining feedstock trajectory translated into reduced production costs for manufacturers.
Offers softened progressively, and downstream buyers in textiles, paper, and detergent industries adopted conservative, on-demand procurement strategies. Overall, offtake from fluorescent whitening agent applications remained measured, limiting upward price support. Crude benchmarks provided little cost support during the quarter. Market sentiment remained cautious once immediate restocking needs were satisfied, with buyers showing reluctance to build forward inventories. The quarter concluded with prices settling at levels below the opening period.

While producing DASDA from sodium salt, sodium salt of para-nitrotoluene-orhto-sulphonate is often utilised. It is boiled in water with caustic soda and is finally reduced using zinc to produce DASDA.
