During the third quarter of 2025, protease prices in China moved steadily downward, weighed by a persistent decline in upstream feedstock values and stable production rates. Weaker corn costs, a primary feedstock, lowered overall manufacturing expenses, prompting producers to adjust their quotations to remain competitive. Market activity stayed cautious, with buyers maintaining limited procurement amid adequate inventories and consistent plant operations. Early in the quarter, manufacturers reported smooth supply conditions as enzyme output continued without major disruptions. Demand from the food processing, detergent, and animal nutrition sectors remained steady but failed to create upward momentum. Trading volumes stayed moderate, with many downstream players adopting a wait-and-watch stance in response to the gradual price correction.

As the quarter progressed, subdued input costs and balanced stock levels further softened market sentiment. Export interest remained limited due to a stable global supply, while domestic consumption patterns showed little variation from previous periods. Competitive pricing among producers and restrained restocking by end-users added to the overall downward pressure. By the close of the quarter, the market reflected a stable yet weak tone, shaped by lower production costs and moderate demand.

About Protease

Protease is an enzyme which improves the rate of proteolysis. Proteolysis refers to the breakdown of proteins into smaller polypeptides units or single amino acids. Proteases are used in numerous biological functions, including digestion of eaten/swallowed proteins and even protein catabolism, that is, the breakdown of old proteins and cell signalling.
