Asia
Asian sodium aluminate conditions remained weak to stable through much of H1’26 as abundant caustic soda and alumina reduced manufacturing costs. General market indicators pointed to strong export availability of liquid caustic soda from China during the early part of the year, reflecting substantial domestic supply. Additional alumina capacity and comparatively loose regional supply reinforced downward cost pressure. Conditions became firmer toward June as chlor-alkali maintenance reduced availability, inventories declined, and alumina producers increased caustic procurement. Emerging concerns around Guinean bauxite exports also limited further downside in alumina-related costs.
Europe
European sodium aluminate markets maintained a stable-to-firm bias as restricted chlor-alkali production tightened caustic soda availability. Traders increasingly considered Asian cargoes to supplement local supply, reflecting the regional cost disadvantage. Higher logistics and raw-material expenses also pressured water-treatment chemical producers. However, stronger European alumina production partly offset expensive caustic soda, preventing a sharper increase. Municipal wastewater-treatment investment provided steady downstream support.
North America
North American sodium aluminate conditions remained generally stable through H1’26, with supply and demand factors largely balancing each other across the region. Early in the period, temporary tightness in caustic soda availability supported firmer pricing, but this was later offset by improved regional supply conditions as production normalized. Additionally, USALCO commissioned a new US$17 million California water-treatment chemical facility which expanded regional production and distribution capacity. Meanwhile, underlying U.S. water infrastructure spending remained substantial, with the EPA announcing nearly US$2.9 billion in May for state drinking-water programs aimed at roughly 4 million lead service lines nationwide.
