This report presents the economics of rifampicin production from mixed carbon sources (peanut meal, soybean flour, glucose, and starch) via a typical fermentation process. In this process, a culture of Nocardia mediterranei is used to inoculate a fermentation media formed by peanut meal, soybean flour, starch, glucose and other compounds. The fermentation produces rifamycin B, which is further processed to rifamycin-O, then to rifamycin-S, then to rifamycin SV, and finally to Rifampicin.
