India’s plastic exports for 2024-25

India's plastic exports reached USD 12.5 billion in 2024-25, marking an 8.7% increase from the previous year's USD 11.5 billion, according to the Plastics Export Promotion Council (PLEXCONCIL). The growth was attributed to strong performances across multiple product categories.

Plastic films and sheets exports grew by 15.9%, rising from USD 1.75 billion to USD 2.03 billion, while woven sacks, fabrics, and tarpaulin shipments expanded by 16% to USD 1.57 billion from USD 1.36 billion. Floor coverings, leathercloth, and laminates also saw a 9.9% increase, reaching USD 762 million compared to USD 693 million in the previous fiscal. Major export destinations included the US, China, the UAE, and Brazil.

PLEXCONCIL Chairman Vikram Bhadauria stated that the sector's growth reflected the industry's innovation and strong global demand. The council has set a 12% growth target for 2025-26, with Executive Director Sribash Dasmohapatra highlighting emerging opportunities in Africa, Latin America, and the CIS region.

To enhance competitiveness, the industry is pushing for early finalization of key trade agreements, including a bilateral deal with the US and free trade pacts with the UK and the European Union. These agreements are expected to further boost India's plastic exports by opening new markets.
