SABIC has introduced a new polycarbonate copolymer resin engineered without any fluorine or PFAS substances. This material, designated LNP ELCRES NPCRX9612U, is the first in a planned portfolio of non-PFAS resins designed to help manufacturers meet evolving regulatory and performance demands.
The new grade provides high chemical resistance, specifically against harsh healthcare disinfectants such as quaternary ammonium salts, while also achieving a UL94 V0 flame retardance rating at thin wall dimensions of 1.5 millimeters. It is suitable for biocompatible applications that require miniaturization and thin-wall design, including medical devices like insulin pumps, diagnostic imaging equipment, and patient monitors.
Company leadership stated that this development is part of a strategic investment in new materials aimed at helping original equipment manufacturers stay ahead of compliance challenges. The resin expands SABIC's existing range of medical-grade thermoplastics, which includes other specialty materials such as internally lubricated LNP LUBRILOY compounds and high-performance ULTEM HU polyetherimide resins.
