Technip Energies secured a substantial contract from SkyNRG for the DSL-01 project, a new sustainable aviation fuel production facility planned for Delfzijl in the Netherlands. The scope covers engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning for what is set to become Europe’s first standalone greenfield plant dedicated to sustainable aviation fuel.

The award followed the completion of the front-end engineering and design phase carried out by Technip Energies and marked a further step in the collaboration between the two companies. With this contract, the project moved from design into full execution, advancing plans to establish large-scale SAF production capacity in the region.

DSL-01 is designed to produce 100,000 tons of sustainable aviation fuel per year using the Hydroprocessed Esters and Fatty Acids pathway. The facility will process waste-based feedstocks, including used cooking oil, to produce fuel intended to lower lifecycle emissions compared to conventional jet fuel.

The project includes an integrated feedstock pre-treatment unit and an on-site hydrogen plant based on Technip Energies’ proprietary steam methane reforming technology. This configuration is aimed at improving cost efficiency while supporting reduced emissions across the production chain. By combining processing and hydrogen generation on site, the plant is structured to support competitive, large-scale SAF output.

The contract represents Technip Energies’ sixth HEFA-based sustainable aviation fuel project in Europe, further strengthening its involvement in expanding regional SAF capacity. For SkyNRG, the development of DSL-01 marks a move toward operating dedicated production assets as part of broader efforts to increase sustainable fuel availability for the aviation sector.
