Product Overview

The report provides a detailed analysis essential for establishing a Cycloheptanol production plant. It encompasses all critical aspects necessary for Cycloheptanol production, including the cost of Cycloheptanol production, Cycloheptanol plant cost, Cycloheptanol production costs, and the overall Cycloheptanol production plant cost. Additionally, the study covers specific expenditures associated with setting up and operating a Cycloheptanol production plant. These encompass production processes, raw material requirements, utility requirements, infrastructure needs, machinery and technology requirements, manpower requirements, packaging requirements, transportation requirements, and more.

Cycloheptanol is an important industrial chemical primarily used as a solvent and an intermediate in organic synthesis. It finds applications in the manufacture of lubricants, surfactants, and as a fragrance component in perfumery due to its sweet, pleasant odour. Beyond these uses, cycloheptanol and its derivatives have been explored in pharmaceutical research for potential biological activities such as analgesic and neuroprotective effects.

The market for cycloheptanol is largely driven by its role as an intermediate chemical in various industrial applications, including the production of lubricants, surfactants, and fragrances. The increasing demand for speciality chemicals and growing use in organic synthesis also contribute significantly to market growth. Additionally, research interest in its derivatives for pharmaceutical applications, such as analgesics and neuroprotective agents, supports market expansion. The market is influenced by trends in related chemical segments, such as cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone, which are seeing robust demand in industries like plastics, nylon production, and personal care products.

However, regulatory scrutiny and the shift toward bio-based alternatives pose challenges and impact industrial cycloheptanol procurement. However, legal and environmental compliance regarding handling, storage, and disposal influences both supplier selection and procurement workflow.

Raw Material for Cycloheptanol Production

According to the Cycloheptanol production plant project report, the raw material for Cycloheptanol production includes cycloheptane.

Production Process of Cycloheptanol

The extensive Cycloheptanol production cost report consists of the following major industrial production process:

  1. Production via oxidation and catalytic reactions: The production process of cycloheptanol involves oxidation and catalytic reactions in a controlled high-pressure environment. The process involves 5,10,15,20-tetrakis(p-chlorophenyl)porphyrin cobalt (II) catalyst, which is dissolved in cycloheptane within a stainless steel autoclave. The mixture is stirred at 120 degree Celsius under an oxygen pressure of 1.0 MPa for 48 hours. After cooling, the reaction mixture is filtered, and the solid product (pimelic acid) is isolated and washed with cycloheptane. Fractional distillation of the filtrate yields cyclohexanone and cycloheptanol among other products. Finally, cycloheptanol is obtained as the final product.

Properties of Cycloheptanol

Cycloheptanol is a colourless liquid with the molecular formula C7H14O and molecular weight of 114.19 g/mol. It has a melting point of about 2 to 7.2 degree Celsius and a boiling point of around 185 degree Celsius. Its density is 0.948 to 0.9554 g/mL at 20-25 degree Celsius, and it is insoluble in water but sparingly soluble in solvents like chloroform and slightly soluble in methanol. The refractive index is around 1.407 to 1.477 at 20-25 degree Celsius.

Cycloheptanol has a vapour pressure of about 0.24 kPa at 25 degree Celsius and a flash point close to 147 degree Fahrenheit (about 64 degree Celsius). It exhibits a partition coefficient (log P) of around 1.9, signifying moderate hydrophobicity. It is a cycloalkanol (a cyclic secondary alcohol) and exhibits typical alcohol reactivity with stability under normal conditions, but can react with strong oxidising agents and acids. It decomposes under high temperatures, forming toxic gases like carbon monoxide and carbon dioxide. The compound is combustible and must be handled with appropriate safety measures.
