It has slightly low acute (short-term) and chronic (long-term) toxicity. Its respective melting, boiling, and flash points are -35°C, 340°C and 171°C. It has a molecular weight of 278.35 g/mol.
Dibutyl phthalate is used to make flexible plastics and plasticisers, which are widely employed in a wide range of consumer products. In plastics it is used to keep them soft. As an additive, its added to adhesives or printing inks, elastomers, lacquers, perfume oil solvents, nail polish, explosives, resin solvents, and paper coatings, which furthers the market growth.
