It has a boiling point of 99.5 ? and has a flash point of 60 °F. It is less dense than water and has vapours heavier than air. It is a carcinogen, a volatile liquid which is fully soluble in alcohols, ethers and almost all organic solvents. It is an extremely flammable liquid.  Its respective boiling and melting point is 210 °F / 99 °C and -96 °F / -71 °C.

It is used to make homopolymers and copolymers. It also finds application as a raw material in fibre processing agents, coatings, acrylic rubber, adhesives, plastics, emulsions, paints and plastics.
