The density of polylactic acid ranges from 1210 to 1430 Kg/m3, and its chemical formula is (C3H4O2) n. Polylactic acid has a melting point between 150°C and 160 °C and a boiling point of 227.6 °C. It shares characteristics with polypropylene (PP), polystyrene (PS), and polyethylene (PE).

Dioxane, heated benzene, and tetrahydrofuran are among the solvents in which PLA is soluble. The physical and mechanical characteristics vary depending on the precise type of polymer, from an amorphous glassy polymer to a semi- or highly crystalline polymer with a glass transition of 60°C –65 °C and a tensile modulus of 2.7–16 GPa.

The demand for it is rising because it is an eco-friendlier alternative to plastics like those made of PLA. Additionally, it is used to make a variety of crucial car parts, including hoods and interior sections.
