Potassium Carbonate Production Cost Report

Potassium Carbonate (K2CO3) is a potassium salt which is carbonic acid's dipotassium salt. It is an inorganic compound, hygroscopic, and is a deliquescent powder. It functions as a fertilizer, a catalyst, and a flame retardant. it is a potassium salt as well as a carbonate salt. It's made as the by-product of potassium hydroxide's absorbent reaction with carbon dioxide and is a primary component of potash.

Potassium Carbonate is a white salt that is odourless and alkaline in taste. It is soluble in water and insoluble in ethanol, acetone, and alcohol, making a strong alkaline solution. It has a pH of 11.6, has a molar mass of 138.205 g/mol, and a density of 2.43 g/cm3. Its melting point is 891 °C and has a thickness of 2.43 g mL-1. It dissolves at 891 ºC.

Potassium Carbonate is extensively used to produce glass and soap. It is mainly used in the basic inorganic chemical industry and in the pharmaceutical industry. The wide range of products that can be made using Potassium carbonate include bulbs, dye, ink, sodium metasilicate, plating, polyester powder, TV tubes, optical glass, potash soap, drugs, photography items, leather, crystal, electrode tube, printing items, and ceramic building materials.

Besides these uses, it finds application as a dry powder, rubber protective agent, and gas adsorbent. In the agriculture industry, it can be used to get rid of carbon dioxide in chemical fertilizer syngas and as a potassic fertilizer. In the food industry, it has extensive usage in many traditional uses like as an ingredient in the production of grass jelly; to tenderize tripe; as a baking agent, balancing the pH in the cocoa powder for chocolate production.
