As the major fertilizer-producing nations increased their customer base, the influx of fertilizers during the peak planting seasons helped avoid the drying of inventories and maintain a sleek balance of supply and demand. However, this momentum was not translated in the fourth quarter and the prices again fell. This was in order to the climatic changes being tolerated by the agricultural community and the disruption of the normal planting calendar.

Europe

Similar to the Asian countries, the rising demand for fertilizers exerted a positive influence on the ATMP market during the third quarter of 2023. Additionally, Asian imports, particularly from China, were quoted at higher prices in the German market, leading to a spike in the ATMP price trend. However, the downward trend in the fourth quarter quickly overturned the progress made by the market in the previous quarter. This was due to the limited demand from the farming sector and excessive rise in the cost of production.

North America

A notable rise in the price trend of ATMP was observed during Q3 of 2023. In North America too, the fertilizer and downstream agricultural product producing sector supported the uptick in the prices during the third quarter. However, towards the end of Q4, the market dynamics stabilized as trade and freight normalisation took place thereby plateauing the ATMP price trend.

Europe

The European market followed the same pricing patterns as its Asian counterpart. The third quarter witnessed a rise in prices whereas the fourth quarter observed a price normalization. During the third quarter supply chains stabilized and cheap Chinese imports also started entering the market causing the buyers to anticipate healthy price trend for ATMP. Contrary to this popular belief the prices saw a stagnant phase considering the economic backlash, contracting purchasing power and poor demand which did not let the market recover.

North America

ATMP price trend for the US domestic market fluctuated throughout the concerned period. Asia

The Russian invasion of Ukraine, which started in the last week of February, produced disastrous effects on the world’s economic flows. The economic backlash unleashed reiterated itself across all the spheres of life. The western sanctions against Russia created a massive void in the global supply of fertilizers and minerals, thereby escalating the prices of phosphate rock and phosphoric acid.

The price of feedstock phosphoric acid averaged 11500 RMB/MT in March 2022. However, the prices of ATMP relaxed a bit in the second quarter as the costs of raw materials settled along with the muted market sentiment. The prices of feedstock phosphoric acid averaged 10633.33 RMB/MT in June 2022. The prices of feedstock formaldehyde averaged 1260-1320 RMB/MT in Shandong, China. Hence, the price trend of ATMP remained anchored throughout the first half of the said year.

Europe

In line with its Asian counterpart, the prices of ATMP stood firm in the European market. The prices of feedstock phosphoric acid have increased around 3-4 times than the 2021 levels. The prices of formaldehyde and ammonia remained strong despite the trade bottlenecks.

North America

The feedstock prices remained strong owing to the raised production costs, freight charges and the robust demand from the downstream sectors. Hence, the price of ATMP remained stable in the US domestic market.
