About Geraniol:

Geraniol is known to be a monoterpenoid that is composed of 2 prenyl units that are linked head-to-tail as well as functionalised with a hydroxy group at its tail end. It is a colourless to pale yellow oily liquid that is insoluble in water but soluble in common organic solvents. It has sweet rose-like odour and plays a role as a fragrant, an allergen, and a volatile oil component. It is a monoterpenoid as well as a primary alcohol.

Production Processes

To produce Geraniol, essential oils such as citronella oils and palmarosa oil are used as a starting material. Fractional distillation of these substances, after saponification, yields a fraction containing Geraniol.
