Sodium Hydroxide (50%) market conditions in Asia were relatively balanced during early H1’26 before regional trends diverged more clearly during Q2. China began the year weak as ample chlor-alkali supply and cautious alumina procurement limited market momentum. Post-holiday restocking and lower inventories supported a temporary recovery, while Middle Eastern disruptions in March increased energy and production costs. Chinese exports strengthened while imports declined, helping absorb part of the domestic surplus. However, adequate availability, supplier competition and subdued purchasing from paper, textiles, detergents and general chemicals weakened conditions again during Q2. India followed a firmer trajectory as stronger industrial procurement, higher replacement costs and tighter regional availability supported the market. Import dependence also increased sensitivity to regional supply constraints.
Analyst Insight
According to Procurement Resource, Sodium Hydroxide (50%) conditions are expected to remain mixed, with India supported by tighter availability while comfortable Chinese supply and cautious downstream procurement may limit broader upward momentum.

Sodium hydroxide (50%) is used in chemical manufacturing, pulp and paper processing, textiles, detergents, alumina refining, water treatment, and petroleum industries. It is used for pH control, neutralization, cleaning, and production of chemicals such as sodium salts. Its strong alkaline properties make it essential for various industrial processing applications.
Sodium hydroxide (50%) production involves electrolysis of purified brine using membrane, diaphragm, or mercury cell technology. The process separates sodium ions, chloride ions, and water to generate caustic soda solution along with chlorine and hydrogen as co-products. The final solution is tested for concentration and purity before industrial supply.
