Eight Key Statistics for Calcium Carbide in Chinese Market

The ex-factory price of calcium carbide in Northwest China has fluctuated and is expected to rise in 2020. The average ex-factory price of calcium carbide from the significant manufacturers was RMB 3,890.00/tonne as of December 30. Compared to the RMB 2,713.33/tonne quoted at the start of the year, the quotation increased by RMB 1,176.67/tonne, a 43.37 percent increase.

The calcium carbide market ascended first, then fell. The ex-factory price of calcium carbide expanded from RMB 2,713.33/tonne on January 1, and January 20 was RMB 2,890.00/tonne, a 6.51 percent higher of RMB 176.67/tonne; it fell to RMB 2,646.67/tonne on March 31, a price decrease of RMB 243.33/tonne, an 8.42 percent decrease. Overall, the calcium carbide market fell slightly in the first quarter, falling 2.46 percent.

The calcium carbide market fell, rose, and finally stabilised in the second quarter. On April 1, the ex-factory price fell from RMB 2,646.67/tonne to RMB 2,316.67/tonne on April 23. The quoted price fell by RMB 330/tonne, a 12.47 percent decrease; then it rose to RMB 2,690.00/tonne on June 08, an increase of RMB 373.33/tonne, a 16.11 percent increase; and finally, the price was maintained at around RMB 2,670/tonne until the end of the quarter. Overall, the calcium carbide market fell sharply in the second quarter, falling 0.25 percent.

In the third quarter, the calcium carbide market fell and then rose. The ex-factory price of calcium carbide fell from RMB 2,577/tonne on July 1 to RMB 2,402.5/tonne on July 13, a drop of RMB 175.00/tonne, or 6.79 percent; and then rose to 2, RMB 2,740.00/tonne on August 24, a 14.05 percent increase. Finally, until the end of the quarter, the price was held steady at around RMB 2,720/tonne. Overall, the calcium carbide market increased by 5.40 percent in the third quarter.

The calcium carbide market continued to increase. The ex-factory price of calcium carbide increased from RMB 2,716.67/tonne on October 1 to 4, RMB 183.33/tonne on December 16, and the quotation increased by RMB 1,466.66/tonne, a 53.99 percent increase; it then began to decline slightly at the end of the quarter, with the average price of calcium carbide being RMB 3,890.00/tonne on December 30. Overall, the calcium carbide market increased by 43.19 percent in the fourth quarter before decreasing slightly at the end of the quarter.

The ex-factory price of calcium carbide increased by RMB 820.00/tonne in November 2020, from RMB 2,863.33/tonne on November 1 to RMB 3,683.33/tonne on November 30, the most significant monthly increase in 2020, giving a 28.64 percent growth. The factory price of calcium carbide fell from RMB 2,646.67/tonne on April 1 to RMB 2326.67/tonne on April 30. The price fell by RMB 320.00/tonne, representing the most significant monthly drop of 12.09 percent.

The average ex-factory price of calcium carbide on April 2, 2020, was RMB 2,333.33/tonne, the lowest point in this year's calcium carbide quotation. The average ex-factory price of calcium carbide on December 16, 2020, was RMB 4,183.33/tonne, the highest price of calcium carbide this year. The price difference between calcium carbide and the lowest price was RMB 1,850.00/tonne.
