For the First Half of 2022


Prices for bisphenol A during the first quarter of 2022 in Asia reflect mixed feelings. In January and February, prices declined owing to the weak demand from the domestic market together with the large inventory levels in the downstream industries. The price dropped from January to February by around 4.4%. As a result, by the quarter ending in 2022, Bisphenol A prices in India averaged 3056 USD/MT in March.

The price trend for Bisphenol A for the quarter ending June 2022 was lowered by the subpar buying sentiments from the Indian domestic market. Due to the low demand for the product, downstream plastic producers saw a decline in Bisphenol A demand. Additionally, the local market's raw material costs demonstrated a downward trend. As a result, the price of phenol feedstock and crude downstream caused a decline in the Bisphenol A market.


Prices for bisphenol A showed a slight increase in the first quarter of 2022. Due to rising upstream oil, feedstock, and acetone and phenol costs brought on by Russia's invasion of Ukraine, Bisphenol A prices increased. Furthermore, the market for Bisphenol A was impacted by the trade interruption brought on by rising gasoline prices.

The cost of bisphenol A in Turkey rose to 1642 USD/MT CFR Izmir in March. Bisphenol A price trends showed an upward tendency during the second quarter of 2022. The rising demand from downstream derivative polycarbonate markets, which influenced the pricing of bisphenol A, supported the price increase. Following the crisis between Russia and Ukraine, Bisphenol A demand increased and domestic market spending increased.

North America

Prices for bisphenol A showed a mixed trend and significant price volatility during the first quarter of 2022. Due to the restricted usage of BPA in plastics used in food packaging, as excessive exposure to BPA can be dangerous, the price of bisphenol A increased in January and then decreased in February. BPA prices fell by 3.2% in February, settling at 4060 USD/MT FOC Texas.

During the second quarter of 2022, the price trend for bisphenol A was inconsistent in the US market. The price of the feedstock benzene and phenol increased due to the tight supply of upstream petroleum and the sanctions placed on the import of Russian crude, which also affected the values of bisphenol A. Inflation and concerns about an impending recession drove up the price of bisphenol A in June.

BPA is manufactured on an industrial scale through the condensation of phenol and acetone, and global production is predicted to reach 10 million tonnes by 2022.
