Asia
In Q4’25, the price of Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) resin in Asia was mostly stable but with a weak undertone. The demand for bottle, beverage, and packaging materials was weak as many converters were holding adequate inventory and were not buying in excess. The exports were slow due to trade tensions and issues faced with regard to tariffs, especially with the U.S. market. On the supply side, the inventory was comfortable with stable operating rates. The prices of feedstocks were somewhat positive for PET resins, though the trend for Monoethylene Glycol and Purified Terephthalic Acid was not robust enough to support prices. In short, the Asian PET market was range-bound during Q4’25. In China, the prices settled at around 827 USD/MT (Spot FD) towards the end of said quarter.
Europe
In the European market, PET prices remained stable to slightly lower in Q4’25. The demand from the packaging and industrial segments remained lower than normal, and the buyers purchased only for their current requirements. The preference for virgin PET over recycled PET grades continued in some regions due to cost reasons. The import supply remained adequate, and as such, there was no tightness in the market. The costs of feedstock were slightly lower, which eased the pressure on production but also eliminated the strong support from costs. The recycled PET market also remained under additional pressure due to the drop in bale and flake prices owing to slow year-end demand.
North America
In the North American region, the prices of PET were firm in Q4’25 compared to the rest of the world. At the beginning of the quarter, the local prices in the region rose because of local supply constraints and the imposition of tariffs on imported PET and recycled material. The lack of overseas arrivals contributed to the firming trend, despite the fall in the cost of the feedstock required for the production of PET, i.e., Monoethylene Glycol. At the end of the quarter, the prices were steady, with buyers remaining cautious while negotiating the prices for the next quarter.
Analyst Insight
According to Procurement Resource, the price trends for PET are expected to be mixed in the near-term. The direction of the prices would depend upon the trade policies, the movement in the feedstock, and the demand from the packaging and beverage industries.

Asia
In Asia, PET prices declined gradually throughout Q3’25. The market faced high supply as several new production units in China came online and some previously idled plants resumed operations. This caused inventories to rise and kept pressure on producers. Demand from downstream polyester, textile, and packaging sectors remained weak due to seasonal slowdowns and reduced export orders.
Even though raw materials like paraxylene and crude oil showed short-term gains, they were not enough to push PET prices upward. Buyers remained cautious, purchasing only what they immediately needed, while producers lowered offers to clear stock. The prices settled at around 826 USD/MT (spot FD) towards the end of said period.
Europe
In Europe, PET prices were mostly weak to stable during Q3’25. Downstream demand from packaging, PET resin, and coatings industries stayed subdued, limiting market activity. Lower paraxylene and naphtha costs reduced production expenses but did not create strong upward support for prices. Imports from Asia, offered at competitive rates, further restrained European producers from raising prices.
Some producers adjusted operating rates to prevent excessive inventory buildup. Market sentiment remained cautious, with buyers relying on existing stock and avoiding large purchases until demand showed improvement. Holiday slowdowns added to the reduced trading activity.
North America
In North America, PET prices showed mild weakness over the quarter. Domestic supply remained balanced, while demand from PET bottle, film, and packaging sectors was moderate. Lower feedstock prices slightly eased production costs, but slow export activity and restrained end-user consumption limited any significant recovery. Producers managed inventories carefully to avoid oversupply, and trading volumes were thin. Price changes were small, with the market remaining generally stable but without strong upward momentum.
About PET
Polyethylene Terephthalate, abbreviated as PET, is one of the most common types of thermoplastic polymer resins. It belongs to the polyester family like PVC. It is mostly utilised in the production of fibres for clothing, and containers for foods and beverages. PET has been identified as a completely safe, non-toxic, lightweight, and flexible material that is recyclable as well.

PET Production Process
- Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) Production From Terephthalic Acid
- Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET) Production From DMT
In this process, PTA is mixed with MEG and catalyst solution in a paste form and processed in an esterification system, splitting off the water. Then, the product from the esterification step is sent to the pre-polycondensation reactor. Finally, the polyester melt is processed either into fibres and filaments or sent to the solid-state polycondensation (SSP) unit for making bottle grade chips for the derived Polyethylene Terephthalate.
