The resumption of the project will be essential for India as it is logistically convenient for India and Mozambique due to the close proximity as well as many LNG terminals. In addition to its convenient location, it can also help the country spread its market in the Atlantic and Asia Pacific markets while exploring the growing energy demand of West Asia and India.

Three Public Sector Undertakings of India, namely, Bharat PetroResources (BPRL), ONGC Videsh (OVL), and Oil India (OIL), have a share of 30% in the project, which was expected to start in 2024 but have since been delayed to 2027 as a result of security concerns at the location of the plant and change in ownership.

Along with the restart of the project, the discussion also concentrated on resuming functions at the offshore field development and the two LNG trains.

Taking into consideration the efforts from both parties, it is expected that the project will restart operations this year between July and August and will become fully operational in 2027.
