It has a slightly alkaline pH in the range of 8.0 to 9.5, which prevents acid deterioration. Its lignin content is very low or absent, which provides resistance to yellowing and brittleness over time. It is compatible with adhesives, free from optical brighteners and fire retardants, and uses color-stable dyes that do not bleed or transfer. All these physical and chemical properties makes it useful in a variety of packaging applications.
