Frequently Asked Questions

The estimated CAPEX for a corrugated metal pipe manufacturing plant is USD 3 million to USD 30 million, with a production capacity of 5,000 to 50,000 MT per year.
The standard plant capacity ranges from 5,000 to 50,000 MT of finished corrugated metal pipes per year. Small plants produce 5,000 to 10,000 MT, medium plants 10,000 to 25,000 MT, and large plants 25,000 to 50,000 MT annually.
The global corrugated metal pipe market is expected to reach approximately USD 3 billion by the end of the decade, growing at a CAGR of around 5%.
Stormwater management and drainage account for about 35% to 40% of demand, highway and road culverts 25% to 30%, municipal infrastructure 15% to 20%, agriculture and irrigation 5% to 10%, and railway, airport, mining, and industrial uses 5% to 10%.
Pre-galvanized or pre-coated steel coil is unwound and passed through several roll-forming stands to create the corrugations. The strip is then formed into a spiral pipe using a forming head. The edges are joined by mechanical lock-seaming or continuous resistance welding, after which the pipe is automatically cut to the required length.
The main feedstock is galvanized, aluminized, or aluminium steel coil, which accounts for around 60% to 75% of total manufacturing costs. Other inputs include polymer coatings, zinc or zinc-aluminium ingots, welding wire, seam-forming materials, coupling bands, and gaskets.
Core forming equipment accounts for around 40% to 50% of total CAPEX. This includes roll-forming corrugation lines, spiral forming heads, seaming systems, cut-off units, and end-finishing equipment.
Steel coil prices are the main cost driver and account for around 60% to 75% of total manufacturing costs. Changes in hot-rolled coil prices and LME zinc prices also affect production costs through changes in galvanizing premiums.
North America accounts for around 35% of the global market, Asia Pacific about 30%, Europe around 20%, and the Rest of the World approximately 15%.
Common product categories include galvanized steel CMP complying with ASTM A929 and AASHTO M36, Aluminized Steel Type 2 CMP under AASHTO M274, and polymer-coated or lined CMP.
Manufacturers must comply with applicable trade tariffs, anti-dumping duties, and domestic content rules such as US Buy America requirements. Section 232 tariffs in the US and EU safeguard duties may also apply. Products must meet relevant ASTM and AASHTO standards.
