Polyester (POY) Manufacturing Plant Project Report 2026: Cost Analysis, ROI, and Feasibility Insights

Polyester (POY) is produced through polymer melting and high-speed spinning. PET polymer melt or chips are melted, filtered to remove impurities, extruded through spinnerets into continuous filaments, rapidly cooled and solidified, and then wound at high speed to impart partial molecular orientation and produce POY.

The main feedstock is polyester PET melt or chips, produced primarily from purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and monoethylene glycol (MEG). As an industry benchmark for polyester filament yarn production, PTA accounts for around 50.3% of cost of sales, MEG around 18.6%, and other raw materials around 6.4%, bringing total raw-material costs to approximately 75.3%.

There is no universal mandatory recycled-content requirement specifically for polyester (POY). Recycled (POY) can be produced from recycled PET and certified under voluntary standards such as the Global Recycled Standard (GRS) or Recycled Claim Standard (RCS), which verify recycled inputs and chain of custody. For products seeking the voluntary EU Ecolabel, polyester filament fibers must contain at least 20% recycled PET when complying through the recycled-content criterion. Manufacturing must also comply with applicable requirements for emissions, wastewater, waste disposal, chemical handling, and worker safety.
