That spread is important because benzoic acid is used across food preservatives, plasticizers, alkyd resins, feed additives, and pharma-related applications. Comparing offers without grade alignment can lead to false savings.

The May 27 market report showed standard industrial-grade benzoic acid in East China quoted at RMB 4,900 to 5,500 per metric ton. High-purity material was described as stable around RMB 7,000 per metric ton, with pharmaceutical-grade offers far higher.

For procurement teams, this creates a clear message: grade discipline matters. Buyers using benzoic acid for sodium benzoate or food-related chains need purity and compliance checks. Buyers using the product in industrial chemistry may have more flexibility, but they still need to watch color, moisture, assay, and impurities.
