
The Mitsubishi Chemical Group in Masdar City, along with INPEX Corporation, have collaborated to traverse through the commercial production of polypropylene, which is made from carbon dioxide and green hydrogen, which is a sustainable alternative with zero emission of harmful substances. This initiative was mentioned during the JAPAN-UAE Business Forum during the month of July in the year 2023. The project mainly aims at recycling carbon dioxide in the atmosphere while promoting the usage of renewable energy sources on a commercial scale.

The two major chemical firms are inspecting the chances of the feasibility and economic viability of this project ideology that enables the conversion of fuel into industrial plastic material. A study by the Energy Transition Commission (ETC) stated that producing plastic materials using renewable energy sources and carbonless substances could produce plastic varieties with zero carbon emissions even after incineration.
The feasibility study will examine the overall status of the project while measuring the amount of carbon dioxide emission reduction. Moreover, it will assess the entire procedure of generating e-methanol, polypropylene, and propylene along with feedstock procurement.

According to Procurement Resource, the two chemical majors, namely INPEX Corporation and MCG, Masdar, have agreed to a collaboration promoting usage of sustainable sources of energy and aim to produce bioplastics with less carbon-emission capacity. The project primarily focuses on recycling carbon dioxide and utilizing it with green hydrogen to produce major industrial plasticizers such as polypropylene, e-methanol, and propylene.
