BASF amps up its superplasticizer raw material lineup

BASF is strengthening its position in the European construction market by expanding its range of raw materials used in the production of concrete superplasticizers. The company recently introduced Pluriol® A 2400 I, a reactive polyethylene glycol, to its portfolio, catering specifically to the formulation of polycarboxylate ethers (PCE). This new product, an isoprenol-PEG (iPEG), is designed to enhance the performance of third-generation superplasticizers, improving both flow characteristics and durability in concrete applications.

As the sole European supplier of this material, BASF emphasized its commitment to reliable supply chains and reduced dependency on external raw materials through a backward-integrated manufacturing process. Jordi Tormo, Vice President of Business Management for Industrial Formulators, highlighted that local production not only ensures consistent availability but also supports sustainability efforts by lowering CO2 emissions.

Beyond its primary use in superplasticizers, Pluriol® A 2400 I has additional applications in the construction sector, including its role as a key ingredient in dispersants for inorganic pigments. This expansion reflects BASF’s strategy to provide innovative solutions that meet the evolving demands of the industry while promoting environmental responsibility.
