  • Carbios and Wankai New Materials, a subsidiary of the Zhink Group, have formalized a binding agreement to deploy Carbios' enzymatic PET recycling technology across Asia. The long-term ambition of the collaboration is to achieve a total processing capacity of one million tonnes, beginning with the construction of a plant in China capable of processing 50,000 tonnes of PET waste annually.

The first phase of this partnership will involve establishing a joint venture, with Wankai as the majority shareholder, to build and operate the initial facility. Carbios will grant this entity an exclusive license for its technology in the Asian region. The financing for this first plant will be guaranteed by Wankai, with construction expected to commence in the first quarter of 2026. Furthermore, Wankai plans to strengthen the strategic alliance through a direct investment of five million euros in Carbios.

The CEO of Carbios described the agreement as a key step in the international rollout of their technology and a significant milestone for their licensing business model. He stated that cooperating with a major PET producer like Wankai would enable the production of enzymatically recycled PET, contributing to a more circular and low-carbon industry. The finalization of the partnership remains subject to the signing of definitive agreements, which the parties aim to complete by the end of 2025.
