Svante Technologies, renowned for its work in carbon dioxide (CO2) capture, and Storegga, experts in storage, have announced a global collaboration to advance the development of multiple carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) projects. This collaboration is formalized through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) they recently signed.

The partnership aims to merge the strengths of both companies. Svante brings its state-of-the-art carbon capture and removal filter technology to the table, which effectively captures CO2 from the atmosphere. On the other hand, Storegga contributes its vast expertise in the transportation and safe storage of CO2, ensuring that the captured gas is not released back into the atmosphere.

Matt Stevenson, who holds the position of Chief Revenue Officer at Svante, voiced his optimism about the collaboration. He believes that the synergy between Svante and Storegga will equip clients with the cutting-edge technologies essential for achieving their emission reduction targets. He further highlighted that the partnership seeks to cater to the needs of industrial enterprises, assisting them in finding sustainable methods to capture carbon emissions. These captured emissions can then either be securely stored underground or utilized in the creation of other products, ensuring minimal environmental impact.

Echoing similar sentiments, Dr. Nick Cooper, the CEO of Storegga, elaborated on the broader implications of carbon management. He views it as a fundamental pillar that the global community can rely on in its mission to achieve widespread decarbonisation. Dr. Cooper is confident that, together, Svante and Storegga can deliver competitive CCU project solutions to customers, facilitating their green transition.

In a noteworthy development earlier this month, Svante teamed up with BASF, a specialist in chemicals and industrial solutions. The collaboration resulted in the production of metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) at a scale previously unachieved — several hundred tonnes per year. This groundbreaking achievement is particularly significant because these MOFs are poised to be integrated into Svante’s carbon capture technology. They act as potent sorbents, enabling high-capacity storage of CO2.

The partnership with BASF saw a seamless transfer of Svante’s laboratory-scale formula to a full-fledged, secure production process, thanks to the concerted efforts of BASF’s team comprising researchers, scale-up experts, and engineers. As a result, the produced MOFs promise to play a pivotal role in carbon capture initiatives. Their potential applications span a wide array of industrial sectors, such as hydrogen production, pulp and paper manufacturing, cement production, steel processing, aluminium manufacturing, and chemical production, underscoring their significance in the global push for reduced carbon emissions.

According to the article by Procurement Resource, Svante Technologies and Storegga have partnered to advance global carbon capture, utilisation, and storage (CCUS) projects. Under a signed Memorandum of Understanding, Svante will contribute its carbon capture technology, while Storegga offers CO2 transportation and storage expertise. The collaboration aims to help industries achieve emission reduction targets. Earlier, Svante, in collaboration with BASF, produced metal-organic frameworks on an unprecedented scale, enhancing carbon capture efficiency across various industrial sectors.
