Huntsman Corporation has opened an expanded Performance Products plant in Petfurdo, Hungary, adding new output for specialty amine catalysts used across several industrial markets. The company said the site began operating earlier this year and that the added production will raise global capacity for materials supplied to polyurethane, coatings, metalworking and electronics customers.

The investment comes as demand rises for Huntsman’s JEFFCAT amine catalysts, a product line used in foam and insulation applications found in cars, mattresses and building materials. The company, which has operated in urethane chemicals for decades, is increasing supply as manufacturers seek products tied to lower energy use, reduced emissions and lower odor in finished goods.

Huntsman said the Hungary expansion will give it more manufacturing options and support the rollout of newer products across its Performance Products business. The company framed the project as part of a longer-term push to improve supply capability and serve faster-growing end markets with greater consistency.

The project also received financial backing from the Hungarian government, which provided an investment grant. Officials attended the opening ceremony, underscoring the role of the plant in regional industrial development and the government’s support for new manufacturing activity in the country.

With the Petfurdo site now online, Huntsman is adding to its European production base at a time when chemical producers are under pressure to supply materials that help downstream industries cut energy consumption and meet tighter product-performance demands.
