Reliance Has Recently Revealed A Reduction In Prices Of PTA And MELT For The Month Of April 2023

Reliance Announced PTA And MELT Price

Reliance Industries Limited (RIL), the most significant polyester value chain market player in India, slashed its prices of purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and MELT for the present week. However, the cost of monoethylene glycol (MEG) has remained intact. This followed up after the company decided to keep the same price a week ago. In addition, the polyester staple fibre (PSF) price has stayed the same as the last fortnight.

As per the industry sources, RIL set the PTA prices at INR 81.20 per kg (down by INR 0.50), MELT at INR 89.04 per kg (lower by INR 0.43) and MEG at INR 57.10 per kg (unaffected). This polyester raw materials pricing came into effect last Saturday. The latest decline in prices of crude oil led to a decline in the prices of polyester raw materials.

When this fortnight began, the price of PSF was held at INR 106 per kg by RIL.

The polyester raw material prices are determined by RIL after examining the Chinese price trends and crude oil fluctuations. RIL's price trend is the standard for the entire Indian market since it is the largest player in the regional market.

RIL To Expand PTA Capacity

Previously Reliance Industries (RIL), in its annual general meeting (AGM), declared that it would construct the biggest single-train purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant at Dahej, which will have a capacity of 3 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA). Also, it will fund a 1 MMTPA PET plant at Dahej. Both the undertakings (PTA and Polyethylene terephthalate (PET)) will finish operations by 2026. It would also invest in polyester filament yarn (PFY) and polyester staple fibre (PSF) again.

At present, India's PTA capacity stands at 6.4 MMTPA, out of which RIL accounts for a huge 78% (5 MMTPA) stake. The latest capacity at Dahej will expand its pre-existing capacity by FY26 by 60%. Over 60% of the PTA's final use application will be in the textile industry (polyester fibre and yarn).

Taking into consideration the huge export prospect, the Indian Government has already made announcements for the incentives that will boost the growth of the man-made fibre industry via a production-linked incentive scheme (PLI). The increase of material by the market leader in capacity represents promising opportunities for the man-made textile value chain in India.

Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA)

RIL is one of the 5 leading producers of PTA worldwide, with a significant capacity of 5 MMTPA. Among this, 4.4 MMTPA is part of India, and the remaining is in Malaysia. It has increased its production capacity twice fold in the past year by adding world-class facilities at Dahej, coming to 2.3 MMTPA. The company's growth can be attributed to its world-class manufacturing technology and strategic interest in the industry.

RIL PTA persists in holding the place of the preferred raw material among the manufacturer of polyester all over India. It is the only company based in India that services regional clients using all three mediums, i.e. tankers, 1.1 MT bags and 50 Kg bags. The company also ventured into setting up a PTA footprint globally by joining the exports market this year and presently exports to the Middle East, Africa and European regions.

RIL's Fiber Intermediates Sector includes Purified Terephthalic Acid (PTA), Ethylene Glycols (EG) & Ethylene Oxide (EO) businesses. They are one of the most significant producers of these products (4th largest in PTA as well as 6th largest in EG). They have the dominant volume share in the regional PTA and EG market and are the sole merchant supplier of EO in India. Their world-scale plants, along with best-in-class technology makes, the best supplier for Indian clients.

According to Procurement Resource, Reliance recently slashed prices of its purified terephthalic acid (PTA) and MELT for the present week. But their monoethylene glycol (MEG) has remained unchanged. Previously the leading PTA producer decided to expand its capacity by 3 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) by constructing the biggest single train purified terephthalic acid (PTA) plant at Dahej.
