China's propylene market entered November 2026 on a firm footing as the supply-demand balance tilted toward tightness, with October turnaround losses carrying into November and a recovering downstream polypropylene chain pulling material from already stretched producers. Propylene output in November is forecast at 4.95 million tonnes, with roughly half of the production losses from October maintenance spilling into the month even as Luxi Chemical and Xintai Petrochemical complete restarts of their PDH units. Working against those additions, Jinneng Chemical in Qingdao and Tianjin Bohua Chemical entered scheduled turnaround, keeping the November supply-demand gap negative. Favourable downstream demand across polypropylene, acrylonitrile, propylene oxide, acrylic acid, and oxo-alcohol chains has kept Chinese domestic propylene prices firm, and November ex-works offers are expected to hold at elevated levels through the first half of the month.

The run-up into November was shaped by the broader October restart wave against a backdrop of persistent oversupply fears for 2027. Several Shandong PDH operators that had idled units during the late-summer margin squeeze ramped back up through October, with the weekly propylene output trajectory confirming the recovery. Downstream polypropylene weekly operating rate and inventory data through late October and into the first week of November reflected the same tightening narrative, with Mysteel's weekly indicators showing improved mill pull against a thinner spot pool. The 2-ethylhexanol market, which shares the propylene cost line, pushed to a one-year high in mid-October as Shandong producers raised offers through the first fortnight, a direct read-through on the firmness in the feedstock. Butyl acetate, butyl acrylate, and acrylic acid producers in East China all reported cost-side pressure through the window.
For procurement teams, the setup argues for cover-and-hedge discipline through the fourth quarter. Polypropylene, acrylonitrile, propylene oxide, and oxo-alcohol converters in India, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and the Gulf should lock November and December propylene cargoes against the tight Chinese balance while watching Luxi and Xintai restart stability in the second half of November. Buyers with origin flexibility should split cover between Middle Eastern cracker cargoes, Chinese FOB offers, and Korean and Japanese contract tonnes to protect blended landed cost, and should keep a line to US Gulf LPG-based PDH material should price dislocations widen. Term discussions for 2027 should move away from fixed premiums towards a formula indexed to Shandong propylene and PDH economics so that both the restart-stability swing and the structural oversupply narrative flow through contract pricing. Converters with firm first-quarter 2027 demand should budget for continued range-bound firmness through year-end, with the upside risk capped by new PDH capacity ramp-ups and the downside risk anchored by the current plant maintenance slate.
